On the next Chuckanut Radio Hour: David Guterson, The Other
July 16, 2008 - Leopold Crystal Ballroom, 1224 Cornwall

In addition to the author guest, each show includes musical guests, the Poet's Corner, a humorous (and often poignant) essay by our resident philosopher, Alan Rhodes, and an episode of our own serial comedy, The Bellingham Bean.   Music begins at 6:30pm.  We ask that everyone be seated by 6:45 for the 7:00 recording.

David Guterson

Bestselling author David Guterson discusses his dazzling new novel about youth and idealism, adulthood and its compromises, and two powerfully different visions of what it means to live a good life.   John William Barry has inherited the pedigree--and wealth--of two of Seattle's elite families; Neil Countryman is blue-collar Irish.  Nevertheless, when the two boys meet in 1972 at age sixteen, they're brought together by what they have in common:  a fierce intensity and a love of the outdoors that takes them, together and often, into Washington's remote backcountry, where they must rely on their wits--and each other--to survive.

David Guterson is also the author of Snow Falling on Cedars and East of the Mountains, and of the story collection The Country Ahead of Us, the Country Behind. A Guggenheim Fellow and PEN/Faulkner Award winner, he lives in Washington State.
